Singles is a American romantic comedy film released on September 18, 1992. It was written, co-produced, and directed by Cameron Crowe, and starring by Bridget Fonda, Campbell Scott, Kyra Sedgwick, and Matt Dillon. It features appearances from several musicians prominent in the early 1990s Grunge movement in Seattle.

Singles centers on the precarious romantic lives of a group of young Gen X’ers in Seattle, Washington at the height of the 1990s Grunge phenomenon. Most of the characters dwell in an apartment block, a sign in front of which advertises “Singles” (single bedroom apartments) for rent.

Divided into chapters, the film focuses on the course of two couples’ rocky romances, as well as the love lives of their friends and associates. The film was distributed by Warner Bros. and released theatrically on 1992 to generally positive reviews from critics and moderate box office success, grossing over $18 million.

The deluxe edition of the album Singles: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack Deluxe Edition was released on May 19, 2017. The album contains a bonus disc with 18 additional tracks. The deluxe edition was released a day after Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell‘s death by coincidence.

Singles, soundtrack album of the film Singles, was released on June 30, 1992, almost three months before the film. It is primarily focused on the ascendant Seattle Grunge scene of the early 1990s, but also features contributions from past Seattle artists Jimi Hendrix and The Lovemongers (Heart‘s Ann and Nancy Wilson, the latter of whom was the wife of the film’s director Cameron Crowe at the time), Chicago’s The Smashing Pumpkins, and the first solo material from Minneapolis’ Paul Westerberg after the breakup of The Replacements.

The album has been certified two times platinum by the RIAA, indicating sales of at least two million copies in the United States. In April 2019, it was ranked No. 19 on Rolling Stone‘s 50 Greatest Grunge Albums list.
