Stone Temple Pilots recorded their MTV Unplugged at Sony Studios in New York City on November 17, 1993. They played songs from their first album Core and aired a new song Big Empty from their yet to be released album Purple. Stone Temple Pilots MTV Unplugged aired on February 2, 1994. Nirvana recorded the following day on November 18, 1993 for their Nirvana – MTV Unplugged set.
