Sap is the second studio EP by Alice in Chains, released on February 4, 1992 through Columbia Records. The allbum was recorded in five days in November 1991. Sap was recorded and mixed in 1991 with producer Rick Parashar at London Bridge Studio. Sap is primarily acoustic, and marks the first time guitarist Jerry Cantrell has sung lead vocals on an Alice in Chains release, with the song Brother.
The EP was produced by Alice in Chains and Rick Parashar and features guest vocals from Heart‘s Ann Wilson, Soundgarden‘s Chris Cornell and Mudhoney‘s Mark Arm. The song Got Me Wrong became a Hit two years after appearing on the soundtrack to the 1994 film Clerks. On January 14, 1994, Sap was certified gold by the RIAA for sales of over 500,000 copies.
Alice in Chains released their second EP Sap on February 4, 1992. The band did not want any advertisements or promotions for the EP, they just put it in stores to see if people would buy it. Sap was soon certified Gold.
The album was re-released on March 21, 1995, when Got Me Wrong became a hit after its inclusion on the soundtrack to the 1994 film Clerks. The re-released version featured slightly different lyrics and artwork. The aforementioned song, as well as Brother, were performed live during Alice in Chains‘ MTV Unplugged concert.
